MOT FAQs

What is an MOT?
An MOT (Ministry of Transport) test is an annual inspection that checks if your vehicle meets the minimum road safety and environmental standards required by law in the UK. It’s a legal requirement for most vehicles over 3 years old.
How much does an MOT cost at Staffs Test Centre?
Our MOT testing prices are as follows: Car MOT (Class 4) ยฃ40 and Motorcycle MOT (Class 1 & 2) ยฃ25.
How long does an MOT test take?
A standard MOT test typically takes between 45-60 minutes to complete. However, if your vehicle requires any repairs to pass, this will extend the time needed.
What happens if my vehicle fails its MOT?
If your vehicle fails the MOT, you’ll receive a “refusal of an MOT test certificate” explaining the reasons for failure. You cannot legally drive your vehicle on the road if your existing MOT certificate has expired, except to drive to a pre-arranged MOT test or to a garage for repairs.
What should I bring to my MOT test?
Please bring your vehicle registration document (V5C) if available, although this isn’t mandatory. If your vehicle has tinted front windows, bring any necessary certification that confirms they comply with legal requirements.
